Overview
The Academic Master's in Human Movement Sciences at UENP began its activities in 2020. The program originated from a proposal by the Physical Education faculty in partnership with the Physical Therapy faculty at UENP’s Health Sciences Center. Approved by CAPES at the 190th Technical-Scientific Council for Higher Education (CTC-ES) meeting, held from November 20 to 22, 2019, it was recognized by Ordinance No. 540/2020 from the Ministry of Education (MEC).
The course offers Stricto Sensu graduate-level education to graduates from Physical Education, Physical Therapy, and other health-related fields. As a scientific framework, the UENP Graduate Program in Human Movement Sciences includes one area of concentration and two lines of research. The concentration area, "Biodynamics of Human Movement," involves the study and production of scientific knowledge related to human performance, as well as the prevention and rehabilitation of chronic diseases, through the practices enabled by Human Movement Sciences.
The research line "Functional and Psychophysiological Aspects Associated with Human Performance" covers studies and research on the impact of physical-functional factors and psychophysiological variables as determinants in human performance, which is understood as essential not only in sports practices but also for performing daily tasks with vigor and improved quality of life. Meanwhile, the research line "Preventive and Therapeutic Aspects of Physical Activity in Chronic Diseases" encompasses studies on the relationship between physical activity and sedentary behavior concerning the onset, progression, or control of chronic diseases.
Thus, the UENP Academic Master’s in Human Movement Sciences contributes to regional development by producing highly skilled technical-scientific professionals focused on the prevention and rehabilitation of chronic diseases and the enhancement of various aspects of human performance. Consequently, various health-related sectors in the region, including universities, which benefit from qualified human resources for research and undergraduate training, as well as different public and private organizations, can benefit from the program.
